When process analysis should lead to a digital prototype
A prototype is useful when the task, goal and test case are clear enough.
Not every process analysis needs software. A digital prototype is worthwhile when a clearly defined task recurs and a test can show whether support helps in everyday work.
Approach
Clarify the task and intended outcome.
Check what can be solved through clearer roles, a template or existing tools.
Agree the smallest meaningful test case.
Test with the people who perform the task day to day.
A working example
A team transfers the same details from an email to a spreadsheet and then into an approval. A small input step can test whether information is more complete and the next step more visible.
Boundary
A concept or demonstrator is not yet production-ready. Operation, maintenance, security, privacy and responsibility need to be clarified before wider use.
